Two rural holiday houses with an excellent level of comfort at the centre of the largest spanish Nature Park –Cazorla, Segura and las Villas- at the border of the village of Hornos de Segura / province Jaén. One with 3 independent apartments (Mirador de la Luna I – III) and a total capacity for 8/14 people and another (Mirador de la Luna IV) for 4/6 people. All the accommodation has living room with sofa bed, open fire, TV, American kitchen, one or two bedrooms, bathroom, central heating and washing machine. Rustic decor and terraces with magnificent views. Price from 52,00 Euro / day + VAT.

Activities in the area: Trekking, 4 wheel drive routes, canoeing, mountain bike, paragliding, deltagliding, fishing, horse riding, archery, paintball, rafting and kayaking over rapids (seasonal).

» Andalucia (Inland) Jaen Region

With a total surface area of 209,920ha and covering almost a fifth of Jaen province, this is Spain's largest protected area and one its most extensive forested zones. Located in eastern Jaen province, it connects the Sierra Morena and the Subbética mountain ranges. The highest peak in this immense park is Pico Empanada at 2,107m and the entire park is higher than 600m.

Recognizing its exceptional ecological importance, it was designated a Unesco biosphere reserve in 1983 and created a natural park in 1989. First impressions of the park may consist of barren rocky crests and vast pine forests, but the area's botanical importance within Andalucia is matched only by the Sierra Nevada, with a fifth of the vascular plants in the Iberian peninsula being found in the Sierra de Cazorla Natural Park. It is also home to 51 species of mammals, 185 birds, 21 reptiles (including an endemic lizard), 12 amphibians, 11 fish and one of the highest number of butterfly species in the Iberian peninsula, with 112 varieties found here.

Two of the Iberian peninsula's most important rivers, the great Río Guadalquivir and the Segura, have their sources in the Sierra de Cazorla, amid some of the wildest landscape in Spain.

» How to Get There

Take the exit La Puerta de Segura on the National Road CN 322 Úbeda – Albacete. Pass through the village direction Siles / Hornos. At aprox. 2 km after leaving the village take the turning to the right: Hornos / Cortijos Nuevos. In the centre of Cortijos Nuevos at the roundabout ( with chemist, restaurant, supermarket) please call the owner ( 953496163 or 620069909) to inform of your arrival.

In The Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Nature Park there are many outdoor leisure activities which you can enjoy all year round, such as excursions in 4 wheel drive, trekking, mountain bike, photosafaris, horse riding, adventure trips, canoing, kayaking, paddle, boating, hang - gliding and paragliding.

Our houses are situated only one hour from the historical towns of Ùbeda and Baeza, which because of their richness in Renaissance buildings are part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. It is also only two hours drive to Granada with its famous mourish Alhambra Palace.

We spent several wonderful days at the Mirador last month. The accommodations were charming, spacious, and clean, and very reasonably priced which was important since we were traveling with our 4 kids and with a disadvantageous exchange rate. We enjoyed being right in the town, and were made to feel welcome by all we met. The view from our unit was incomparable, and it was amazing to hear the distant sound of sheep and donkeys at night. The owners could not have been more attentive.. We were amazed and very appreciative when we called Encarna to tell her we were arriving very late because of a mishap earlier in the day, and she was so kind as to put some generous provisions in the apartment so the kids could readily eat at that late hour. The area is interesting for both its history and its natural resources, and the La Luna website is a wealth of information. We�ll make a point to come back when we are in Spain again.
